A weekend beach getaway at Karpe's Wadi in Nagaon, near Mumbai

Located around 130 kms away ( from Borivali, mumbai), Karpe's wadi is certainly a great relief from the brick and concrete jungle of Mumbai. The drive is pretty straightforward and you will have to follow directions to Alibagh via Panvel (from Mumbai). If you follow the detailed driving directions on the website, you will have absolutely no problems.

Since you are driving through Panvel anyways, may be you should stop over at Sri Dutta Snacks, right at the Vadkhal naka for your fix of their mouth watering, and Mumbai's ubiquitous Vada Pav. Be prepared to struggle your way through the hoards of other highway revelers who inevitably stop over at the joint for breakfast.

Now, let's get back to the property :-)

The resort, owned by the Karpe family, is jointly run by them with quite a few locals employed to make your stay comfortable. Also, since the family itself looks after the overall management and customer interactions for the resort, the overall experience is good. In their own words, the little resort is focused on agro-tourism and eco-friendly tourism - the impact on the environment has been minimized by adopting many eco-friendly practices, and the management of the resort will be only too glad to give you some insights into their practices. Many rooms also feature Warli paintings (made from natural colors) and the  furnishings of the rooms too are eco-friendly. This property has been approved by MTDC as a bed and breakfast.

Coming back to the property itself, the best part is its proximity to the beach. And the beach here is an unending stretch of almost 4 kms, with not too many souls. So you will have this almost private beach all to yourselves. This makes it a great place if you wish to be all by yourself (be sure to carry your umbrella and loads of sun screen; the mid-day sun here can be quite sharp!). Though the beach sand is not as white as it is at the nearby Kashid beach (in fact it is quite dark, just like that of the another nearby Murud beach), the privacy makes it well worth it. The beach slopes gradually and hence is good and safe for swimming.

The property is actually a farm and has a variety of plants and trees with many coconut trees, and an almost private garden for each of the many ground level cottages. Care has been taken to ensure that each  of the cottage is as independent as possible, with their separate garden with a welcoming hammock and a wooden-board swing to laze upon. Most of the rooms are not air conditioned, but that is hardly ever noticed - the night sea breeze should keep you adequately cool.

There is a choice of 2/3/4 bedded rooms and they are happy to arrange for a dormitory-like set up for a large group, if you so wish.

With eco-friendliness at the core value of the resort, emphasis is given to using only the local produce for cooking, and the menu is limited to staple Indian food , but is delicious! The cooking is simple and minimalist (nutritious too!) and can be made to suit your personal palate.

The meal timings are fixed and, since the owner happens to be from the army background, they are to be followed strictly :-)
